Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy

Enjoy calmer states of being

Welcome

Welcome

Welcome to Pakarina and to the healing world of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy.

My name is Gricel and I am delighted to invite you to experience  this gentle, yet profound therapy.

It is my joy to offer you a session to explore a deeper connection with the wisdom of your own body, and with the inherent healing ability that lies therein.

I provide a safe and calm space where the nervous system can let go and settle into the therapeutic space. By maintaining a neutral and non-judgmental approach, together we can explore what the body system may bring into the session to be resolved. This could be physical, emotional or mental issues that in the stillness of the session can be seen and dealt with, with care and a gentle curiosity. You will tap into a renewed experience of settling, of trust and calmness that can be accessed anytime in daily life.

I offer an optimistic perspective and help you de-stress, relax and gain insights into your body's language and life situations that may need attention.

A little bit about my background

I was born and raised in Lima, Peru where I studied Communications and where I first dipped my toe into meditation. In my mid 20's I moved to the USA and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Photography and a Master of Fine Arts in Photography and Digital Imaging. I went on to teach Photography and Digital Arts at Johns Hopkins University and the Maryland Institute College of Art.

After a few challenging years in my personal life, coupled with the intensity of study and work, I found myself enjoying a new sense of inner peace which I decided to nurture by practising meditation again. I started attending silent retreats and visiting Buddhist monastic communities where I could experience a life imbued with more stillness, silence and simplicity. I felt a strong commitment to cultivating awareness through these practises. During one of my long-term visits to Buddhist monasteries in the UK I met my beloved husband and soon after I moved to this part of the world. My love for nature deepened as we travelled these and other lands, activating a profound understanding of the importance of nature connection in this human experience.

These practices began to awaken a  fascination with the human potential, and with the interconnectedness of all life on this living being that is our beautiful planet Earth. I feel inspired to cultivate wellbeing. The healing art of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy came later in my life, however, on reflection I can see how much of what interested me in my personal development carried the principles that are at the core of this therapy. I trained at the Craniosacral Therapy Educational Trust school in London through which I qualified as a BCST therapist.

My wish is to offer my gifts to assist in the cultivation of inner peace, for expansion and spaciousness to arise in the contracted states born out of these tumultuous times. The potential for attaining a peaceful heart and a peaceful life is always here, just as in biodynamics; the health is always present, even in sickness.

Biodynamic principles

'Biodynamics is a term used in Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy denoting the nature of the creative forces at work, which organise our mind-body system from embryological development, throughout life.' (Franklyn Sills).

In Biodynamics we work with the potency that is carried within the cerebral spinal fluid, facilitating its fluidic flow. This potency is a 'sacred, life giving presence' that Dr. Sutherland called 'the Breath of Life' which bathes the central nervous system.

We as therapists work with this life-giving presence to assess the state of wellbeing in the body system, and to help enhance its potency therefore increasing the healing potential of the body.

How it works

Sessions last one hour or sometimes a bit more. The client lies fully clothed on a treatment table, usually on their backs. For people with mobility issues there are other positions that are used to make sure the client and practitioner are comfortable,

With a very light touch, I place my hands on the shoulders or the feet, to help the system settle. During the session I may move to the head and place my hands underneath it, or the hips, or the torso area, or to any area where there may be stagnation and where the facilitation of fluid flow would be beneficial.

As practitioners, we are always listening and sensing with our hands, tunning in to the health in the system and therefore facilitating its clearer expression. Physical or emotional issues may arise in the stillness of the session and these can be dealt with within the context of the healing container that has been accessed.

The session may be mostly silent, or it may be more conversational, depending on the client's needs. However, moments of silence are always expected and usually welcomed by the client.
